On 6 July 2026, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC) announced the appointment of Paul Knight as its Chief Operating Officer. Mr Knight will oversee the US SEC’s principal operational and administrative functions, including financial management, acquisitions, human resources, data governance, enterprise risk management, records administration and the EDGAR filing infrastructure.
Paul Knight to oversee the US SEC’s operational infrastructure
As Chief Operating Officer, Mr Knight will oversee:
- the Office of Human Resources;
- the Office of Acquisitions;
- the Office of Financial Management;
- the EDGAR Business Office;
- the Office of the Chief Data Officer;
- the Office of the Chief Risk Officer; and
- the Office of Support Operations, including Freedom of Information Act administration, records management and facilities management.
Experience across the US SEC, US Treasury and JPMorgan Chase
Mr Knight joins the US SEC from JPMorgan Chase, where he most recently served as the principal lead responsible for supporting growth across the firm’s United States business lines. He had previously managed the programme office responsible for Chase Bank’s expansion into 25 additional states. Before joining JPMorgan Chase, Mr Knight served as a senior adviser and business manager at the United States Department of the Treasury between 2012 and 2014. The appointment also marks his return to the US SEC. Between 2008 and 2012, Mr Knight held several positions at the US SEC, including serving as interim managing executive of the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis. Mr Knight holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, a Master of Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University Carey Business School and a certificate in commercial real estate from Cornell University.
