BitMEX, one of the world’s largest trading platforms for crypto derivatives, announced that it has settled a dispute with both the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) in relation to investigations by both agencies. BitMEX has agreed to pay as much as US$100 million to resolve the charges. The US authorities had alleged that for over six years, BitMEX offered trading of cryptocurrency derivatives without being registered with the CFTC and failed to implement and maintain compliant anti-money laundering and customer identification programmes or to report suspicious activity.
