US SEC Sets Agenda for 24 Hour Trading Roundtable on Market Readiness, Resiliency and 24x7 Trading

On 1 September 2026, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (US SEC) announced the agenda for its roundtable on preparations for 24 hour trading. The roundtable will take place on 17 September 2026 at the SEC's headquarters in Washington, DC. Discussions will examine market readiness, operational resilience and the expected impact of extended trading hours. The agenda covers exchange and broker dealer preparedness, overnight surveillance, clearing and settlement, cybersecurity and market data continuity. Participants will also consider liquidity, capital formation and investor protection as US markets move towards near continuous trading. A further discussion will examine potential expansion towards 24×7 trading and the infrastructure required to support it. The roundtable will bring together the SEC with representatives from exchanges, broker dealers, asset managers, market makers, clearing infrastructure and other market participants.

SEC Prepares for Expansion of 24 Hour Securities Trading

The SEC's roundtable will examine the operational and regulatory preparations required as securities markets move towards longer trading hours.

The programme begins with remarks from the SEC Chairman and Commissioners and Jamie Selway, Director of the SEC's Division of Trading and Markets. This will be followed by a data presentation from the Division's Office of Analytics and Research.

The substantive programme is organised around market preparedness, operational resilience and the longer term implications of near continuous trading.

Rather than addressing extended trading hours as a single market access question, the agenda considers the infrastructure supporting the entire trading lifecycle.
