Thai Regulator to Apply Strict Guidelines for Crypto ADS

Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) informed cryptocurrency-related businesses operating in the country that stricter regulation of advertisements concerning digital currencies will be in force by October 2022. The SEC has developed the new standards for cryptocurrency-related advertisements in response to a number of marketing campaigns that failed to include investment risk warnings. The new standards will require advertisements to not feature false, misleading or exaggerated claims and to include investment risks warnings. The regulator also highlighted the need for balanced advertising, which would require the inclusion of potential positive and negative factors relating to the products or services being promoted. Firms will have to limit advertising directly promoting cryptocurrency to ‘official channels’ like their own websites.
