Uzbekistan to Restrict Crypto Mining to Companies Using Solar Energy

Uzbekistan’s National Agency of Prospective Projects (NAPP) is to regulate crypto mining operators. Under the new regulations, only companies using solar energy will be authorised to mine Bitcoin (BTC) or other cryptocurrencies. Mining companies will also need to own the solar photovoltaic power plant they use for energy. The new regulations will also introduce a mandatory registration process for mining operators which will be required to obtain a certificate and register in the national registry of crypto mining companies. This procedure requires submission of a brief list of documents, and should take no more than 20 days from submission to the final decision to the licensing body. Certificates will be valid for one year from registration. Mining of anonymous crypto assets will be prohibited under the regulation.
