SEC Enhances Website for Improved Compliance, Functionality, and User Experience

Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced updates to its website to enhance compliance with federal statutes and standards, as well as to improve functionality and user experience for market participants and the public.

“I’m pleased that these updates will improve our website’s compliance with federal standards,” said SEC Chair Gary Gensler. “These changes will benefit investors, issuers, and the broader public.”

The updates to SEC.gov include a revamped information architecture to better align with the 21st Century IDEA, the General Services Administration’s U.S. Web Design Standards, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. Notable improvements feature a more responsive design, increased mobile usability, enhanced search capabilities, and streamlined content organization. These changes aim to enhance the site’s accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities, and support a variety of devices and screen sizes.

The SEC has made navigation more intuitive, simplifying public access to critical information and reducing the time spent searching for documents, filings, and regulatory updates. This user-centric approach organizes information in a clear, logical, and topical manner rather than based on the agency’s internal structure.

Based on web traffic data and user feedback, the SEC’s homepage now includes a “Quick Links” section, enabling users to quickly access the most sought-after content. The site’s dynamic design allows for changes to “Quick Links” as needed, based on web traffic patterns.

Additionally, the updated website features a new “Tips and Complaints” wizard to help users report misconduct or seek assistance with investment account issues. This tool directs users to the appropriate forms, such as Tips, Complaints, and Referrals; the Investor Complaint Form; the Ombuds Matter Management System; and the Investor Question Form. It also provides resources with relevant information for users seeking to contact the agency.

The enhancements also include improved site performance, coding, and speed, offering users quicker access to information. Better coding practices have been implemented to enhance search engine optimization, machine readability, and overall accessibility.

Users will now find it easier to access information on past events through a new events archive. This archive allows users to quickly locate details about previous Commission meetings or other public events, including Sunshine Act notices and archived webcasts.

As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the usability of the crypto sphere, the SEC is dedicated to ensuring that its digital platforms meet the evolving needs of investors and stakeholders. These website enhancements reflect the Commission’s commitment to providing transparent, accessible, and user-friendly resources for those engaging with the rapidly growing cryptocurrency market.

These website improvements represent a significant step forward in the SEC’s mission to protect investors, maintain fair and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. By enhancing accessibility and usability, the SEC aims to better serve the public and uphold its regulatory responsibilities in an increasingly digital world.
